Located approximately 500 feet above mean sea
level, and sheltered from the cold air of the Great
Plains by the Appalachian Mountains, the Pinehurst area
is blessed with a mild, dry climate that is pleasant
year round. Its sandy soil provides rapid
drainage. This upper layer of dry sand warms and
cools rapidly. The results are warm days, cool
nights and low humidity. The following table
provides statistics compiled by the U.S. Weather Bureau
over the past 30 years.

Consequently there are very few
days when one cannot comfortably play golf or
tennis. Our seasons are very distinct but mild
compared to many other parts of the country.
