Aberdeen

A walk through downtown Aberdeen is like a walk through history where entrepreneurs and railroad tycoons built and shaped a town once known as ``Blue's Crossing and renamed Aberdeen in 1887.  The Aberdeen Historic District was officially dedicated on July 2, 1989.  The district encompasses 88 acres and over 100 historic buildings constructed in the late 19th and 20th centuries.

Charm and comfort abide in the Aberdeen of toady.  Along with the historic district.  Aberdeen is vibrant with businesses, shopping, parks and an active community of about 3,000 residents.

Cameron

The town of Cameron was incorporated by Act of the General Assembly in 1876, and town limits were set comprising a square one mile wide with the center of the square at the depot lot of the Raleigh & Augusta Airline Railroad.  The new town's growth was prompt and vigorous.

Since the settlement of the town of Cameron by Highland Scots, the town has grown from a lumber and railroad center to at one point ``The World's Largest Dewberry Market."  The town now is a reflection of its past.  Today Cameron is known for its century old buildings filled with ``old things" and crafts.

Carthage

Carthage has been the county seat of Moore County since 1784.  In 1850 the Tyson and Jones Buggy factory was established and it later became the manufacturer of the ``Cadillac" of the horse-drawn buggy.  The factory brought prosperity to the area that is reflected in many of the architectural treasures of the town.  The National Historic District of Carthage gleams with over 50 buildings and residences.

The Carthage community is centrally located in Moore County, close to many other towns and attractions.  Carthage exhibits the mixture of terrain and community that makes Moore County so rich.

Pinehurst

Rich in history and tradition, Pinehurst is the crown jewel of the Sandhills.  In 1895 James Walker Tufts transformed barren lands into a health resort.  He is credited for planting the famed pines that have brought the region fame.  Along with the guests of the early resort came golf.  Pinehurst is one of the world's foremost golf communities with over 40 courses in the area.

The village of Pinehurst is a unique escape to a time where walking the town streets and visiting neighbors cottages was a way of life.  Shopping and dining are world class, and recreational facilities are unsurpassed.

Robbins

Robbins is located in the northern portion of Moore County between the longleaf pines and rolling hills and pastures.  The area boasts a quaint unique pottery industry that has its roots in the clay soil of the region.  Visiting the local potters is a step back through time where you can watch the artisans at work creating treasures of earthenware.  Robbins is a mix of industry and agriculture which makes its economy strong.

Southern Pines

In 1884, John Patrick paid less than $2 an acre for the land that would become the town of Southern Pines.  Patrick's purchase was referred to as ``Patrick's Folly" for it was barren wasteland whose longleaf forests had been stripped and used for tar, pitch, turpentine and lumber.  Patrick however set out to make his town a health resort.  Today the town is a southern belle with over 9,500 people calling Southern Pines home.

The town has cosmopolitan flare with unique shopping, wonderful restaurants, cultural centers, hotels, resorts and plenty of southern hospitality.  Horse farms, golf courses, festivals, and activities make Southern Pines a haven for those looking for city life with small town benefits.
